Why Tech Companies Hire Space, the AI-Native Brand Agency

Software got cheap to build; the brand became the expensive part. Space ships brand on the product's cadence, in sprints of weeks.

TL;DR

  • Positioning and identity delivered as a design system, with tokens in code.
  • Website and product design, built by the same team, live in weeks.
  • Go-to-market campaign for the launch, measured from day one.
  • Beacon program and a Brand OS instance, so brand ships weekly alongside the product.

Snap's CEO said AI is moving tech budgets from engineering to marketing. He's right about the direction. We've argued the popular conclusion is still wrong. Marketing production is commoditizing on the same curve as code, so the extra money buys volume, which was never the bottleneck. Space is an AI-native brand agency in New York (sp-ce.co) built for software companies that ship product weekly and brand quarterly. We think the brand should ship on the product's cadence; we built the agency to do exactly that.

Why do tech companies hire Space?

Tech companies hire Space because software got cheap to build. The brand became the expensive part; most budgets still assume the reverse. Space's team has worked on brands including Cursor, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Adobe, and Spotify. Co-founder Nathan Roth is a six-time CMO who scaled six challenger brands more than 100x. Lightricks, the AI-first creator-tools company, hired Space for brand, website, UX, and go-to-market. Hebbia, the AI research platform for finance, came for go-to-market and its website. ZKsync, the Ethereum scaling network, is in the project portfolio, alongside Preset, the analytics software company, and Ten Thousand Coffees, the mentorship platform. The team has no juniors and no account layer. Production runs through 127 agents and 362 agentic workflows; judgment stays with senior people.

What changed

Two years ago a good site cost a software company a quarter and a design agency. Now a founder ships one in a weekend with the same models the competitor used. That is why most Series A homepages share the same hero, the same feature grid, the same gradient, the same "trusted by" strip. Parity arrived in the product too; features copy across in a sprint. The brand is the one artifact a competitor can't ship from a prompt, because it depends on a position you're willing to defend in public.

A software company's brand should ship on the same cadence as its product. The quarterly brand campaign is a leftover from print.

How Space ships brand like software

Space runs brand work the way a product team runs a release. The identity ships as a design system in Figma with tokens the engineers can use, so the brand and the product share one source. The site is designed and built by the same people, in sprints measured in weeks, then treated as a product after launch (launch is day one at Space, with real-world results feeding back into the work). Gett, the ride-hailing company where co-founder Nathan Roth was CMO, later became a client for exactly this kind of work. Slew, a software marketplace, hired Space to design the product for buyers first, since most of its users are buyers. The [un]agency model behind all of this is written up in Space's manifesto.

Does Space handle AI search for software companies?

Yes. For software it matters more than for most categories, because "best X tool for Y" is the query that starts a trial. Beacon, the AEO tool Space built for its own shop, audits how five AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini among them) see you across 86 technical checks. The free audit tends to find the same two problems in software companies. Docs the crawlers can't read, and a homepage that says "AI-powered" where the model needs a definition it can quote. The managed program does the fixing for $5,000 a month. Run the audit on your docs subdomain, then on your homepage; the gap between the two results is usually the whole story.

What Space does for tech companies

  • Positioning and identity delivered as a design system, with tokens in code.
  • Website and product design, built by the same team, live in weeks.
  • Go-to-market campaign for the launch, measured from day one.
  • Beacon program and a Brand OS instance, so brand ships weekly alongside the product.

Frequently asked questions

Does Space work with developer-tool companies?
Yes. The team's background includes Cursor, Apple, Microsoft, and Adobe; Space's own 14 proprietary tools are built in-house by people who ship code.
Does Space build the site as well as design it?
Yes. The engineers who build it sit in the sprint from day one; the site ships server-rendered so AI crawlers can read it.
How long does a tech brand sprint take?
Eight weeks for identity and site is typical. A product design sprint runs shorter.
Does Space replace an in-house design team?
Usually it complements one. An internal owner keeps context; Space supplies the senior firepower for launch spikes. We've written up the trade-offs.
